This has been my demise (well part of it) the past 72 hours. A snack mix version with oil and a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch— it’s delicious!

Yesterday was wonderful family time. We drove a few hours away to celebrate my wife’s grandmother’s 92 birthday. It was a baseball theme with half the family being Cardinals fans and the other half rooting for the team they beat. There were tons of people and 4 generations present. It was really special. The family has over 120 first cousins so it’s rare these days that many of us can get together. After the party we met one of my wife’s best friends since childhood and enjoyed pizza and amusement park rides with all  of our kids. 

Today I mowed the lawn while my wife filled water balloons and then we watched the kids enjoy a fight with them.  

As some of you begin Whole 30 tomorrow I am planning to begin watching my carbs again. I need something to get me back on track. I’m going to eat lower carb until I’m back around 230 and then do another round with the shakes. I also need to get back to the gym. I have no excuse to not get there this week. 

In other news- I’ve gained more followers not posting and gaining weight the past two weeks than I did all summer!

My father-in-law and I took the older two to Wingfest today. It was great- sitting with strangers, good music, beer,  and food!

In other news I haven’t exercised in over a week now. My weigh-in yesterday was up around 9 pounds for the week. I’m telling myself most of that is water. 

Tomorrow we get to celebrate my wife’s grandmother’s 92 birthday followed by dinner with childhood friends and their kids!

Being Lazy 

I haven’t worked out since Thursday. I’ve been eating poorly since Friday night. It hasn’t been stress eating- just poor planning for social and work events.

I made a salad for lunch tomorrow Ainu have no excuse. I also should be able to get to the gym tomorrow night while the oldest is at tkd.

As I told a student this afternoon- tomorrow is a fresh start.

Relaxing weekend. 

Friday night was a nice back to school celebration at my superintendent’s home. 

Yesterday I did a few things around the house and then we had dinner and saw a friend in a local production of Into the Woods. 

Today I worked for a few hours and then the oldest and I went to Ferguson.  My first teaching position was 2 miles from here. I’m now about 5. We delivered water and some school supplies. We weren’t there to protest or take sides. It was a living lesson for him on social justice, race issues, and healing a community. Hopefully he had a little insight into what I’ve dedicated my life to changing. 

Now for a long week …

Aside from two meals it was a great week eating and I worked out most days. This weekend may be rough as I have a work party at the boss’ tonight and we are trying a new Mexican restaurant tomorrow night.

30 minutes. 3.09 miles. 9:43 pace. 

My legs were sore tonight. It wasn’t a bad run but it was never great. I’m glad I stuck it out. 

I’m exhausted. I could fall asleep now. I think I’m just worn out with the first full week with kids. I’ve been trying to get in by 6 each morning followed by long days. Add that to staying up late watching news and reading about Ferguson and I’m beat. I look forward to some rest this weekend. 

I had to have a conversation with someone today about negativity and lack of relationships and how that is impacting the work environment. It wasn’t pretty but it was long overdo. I don’t like being the bad guy. 

In other news my grass is now long enough that I’m embarrassed. Unfortunately it’s on the bottom of my to-do list. Maybe tomorrow …

Felt good the entire run. I think I was still burning off calories from Saturday night’s dinner. 

Tonight was our “easy” night. Our kids’ activities start picking up tomorrow. Hoping for a good night’s sleep if I can stop watching Ferguson coverage.

30 minutes on the bike this morning. 8.7 miles.

Last night was our final Muny show of the season. After two extended rain delays they called the show. It was the first show we’ve had canceled in 12 years. Was still a good night with friends and a great dinner before.

Today is chores around the house, some work, getting a few new dress shirts and a nap.
